When the new rates start
The increase takes effect on December 1, 2026. VA pays each month's compensation at the start of the next month, so the first payment at the new rate is December's, which arrives on Thursday, December 31, 2026 because January 1 is a holiday.
If you have a spouse, children or dependent parents
Veterans rated 30% or higher get more for dependents. VA's full tables list every combination. The same COLA applies to each amount.
Estimates round to the nearest cent. VA's own table can differ by a cent or two.
